About us:

The UNEP-DHI Centre on Water and Environment is a United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) centre of expertise, dedicated to improving the management, development and use of freshwater resources from the local to the global level. UNEP-DHI Centre has been in operation since 1996 and has been co-funded by UNEP, Danida and DHI since 2001.

During this time, the quality and relevance of the work of the UNEP-DHI Centre has resulted in it becoming a core resource for UNEP’s work on freshwater issues, and in delivering on its Programmes of work and Freshwater strategies. The UNEP-DHI Centre has attained global recognition for its work in promoting sustainable water resources management and supporting the water-related SDG targets.

The UNEP-DHI Centre is hosted by DHI, an independent, international advisory and research organization established in Denmark. DHI has more than 50 years of experience in water resources management and is represented in all regions of the world with over 1,000 staff in more than 25 countries, and work experience from more than 140 countries. DHI operates as a not-for-profit foundation, and is affiliated to the Danish Academy for Technical Sciences (ATV) and is an approved Technological Service Institute.  Any profits re-invested in further technology development and knowledge dissemination. Long-term success has placed DHI at the forefront of innovation and expertise within its field.

The UNEP-DHI Centre operates by drawing on DHI’s technical expertise in water and project implementation. Activities are typically carried out in collaboration with a broad network of complementary partners from a range of organizations.
