This UNEP-DHI report highlights the potential of using freshwater ecosystems to implement nature-based solutions (NbS) to tackle the triple planetary crisis – climate change, nature and biodiversity loss, and pollution. Using lessons from Afghanistan, Albania, El Salvador, Haiti, Kenya, Morocco, and Tanzania, it showcases the potential for real livelihood and socioeconomic benefits that have been unlocked by implementing nature-based solutions through freshwater ecosystems.
