Regional report on status of IWRM implementation in Central America in 2020

This regional report presents the status of IWRM implementation in Central America and is based on the national reporting on SDG indicator 6.5.1 by the countries of the region. The report was prepared by GWP Central America, in collaboration with GWP, UNEP-DHI and Central American Commission for Environment and Development (CCAD).

The analysis presented in the report is based on the SDG 6.5.1 data submitted by the member countries of the Central American Integration System (SICA) – Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.  The report also includes data from Dominican Republic.

The report outlines a consolidated vision of the region that reflects its level of progress in the implementation of IWRM. It also identifies the most important advances achieved at the level of the countries of the region in the period between 2017 and 2020, and takes a closer look at their common challenges and opportunities. This consolidated regional document aims to propose strategies to advance implementation of IWRM at the regional level, as well as to inform the definition of the work agendas at the level of each country.
