With close to two billion people worldwide living in coastal areas, appropriate climate adaptation in these environments is critical. This new classification, hazard mapping, and climate change adaptation guidance for the world’s coastlines aims to improve climate action from the local to the global level.
Despite their outsized benefits to society, climate, biodiversity, and economies, freshwater ecosystems are persistently undervalued in political and economic decision-making. As the cascading impacts of the climate crisis on freshwater ecosystems become increasingly apparent, it is urgent for countries to step up efforts to protect these invaluable systems.
